Comparatives і superlatives: -er/-est, more/most, as…as

🗣️ Простими словами

Коли порівнюємо, прикметник має три «рівні»: звичайний (big), вищий (bigger — «більший за») і найвищий (the biggest — «найбільший з усіх»). Правило вибору форми залежить від ДОВЖИНИ прикметника.

Короткі vs довгі прикметники

🗣️ Простими словами

Короткі (1 склад + 2 склади на -y): додаємо -er / -est (big → bigger → the biggest; happy → happier → the happiest). Довгі (2+ склади): ставимо more / most (beautiful → more beautiful → the most beautiful).

Правило довжини: 1–2 склади беруть -er/-est, 3+ склади — more/most.

Правопис

Подвоєння приголосної: big → bigger. y → i: happy → happier. -e: nice → nicer.

Неправильні форми (вивчити!)

Винятки

good → better → the best.
bad → worse → the worst.
far → further/farther → the furthest.
little → less → least; much/many → more → most.

🏆 Ніколи не кажи «more good» чи «gooder»! Тільки better → the best. Так само bad → worse → the worst.

as…as, than, the…the

🗣️ Простими словами

as … as — однакові (as tall as = такий самий високий). not as … as — менше. Після comparative йде than (taller than me). А «що…, то…» — це the … the (the more, the better).

She is as tall as her brother. Today is hotter than yesterday. The more you practise, the better you get.
